 The
Philippine Institute of Industrial Engineers held its 4th National
Congress on February 28, 2003 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel,
Makati City. A roster of competent and experienced specialists
from both industry and academe were invited to expound on topics
revolving around this year's theme; "Managing Cost in Challenging
Times".
The
Keynote Speaker of the Congress was renowned economist and thought
leader, Dr. Bernardo M. Villegas. The participation of Prof. Kin
Keung Lai, President-Elect of the Asia Pacific Industrial Engineering
and Management Society (APIEMS) , who delivered a plenary talk,
was the result of PIIE's networking with IE organizations in the
region. Mr. Niclas Svenningsen of the United Nations Environment
Program likewise added to the international flavor of the Congress.
The other speakers provided a well-rounded and incisive look into
the issue of managing cost during these economically volatile,
environmentally-challenged, and politically-trying times.
