PIIE CEBU ACTIVITIES IN 2005
The PIIE Cebu Chapter under the leadership of Mr. Andre Lim has been very active this year and has managed to spearhead three lecture activities during the first half of 2005. So far the following activities they have successfully organized were:
- Ergonomics – This was spearheaded by Ms. Baby Lim ( University of San Carlos ) and who incidentally is the wife of the Chapter President. This was held in two sessions last February to accommodate the size of the audience. The Chapter partnered with Lexmark as part of their Hiring pool for IEs and was held at the Lexmark facility in the MEPZ (Mactan Export Processing Zone).
- JIT Application - This was an academic activity that PIIE Cebu sponsored for the graduating students of the University of San Jose-Recoletos during the school's IE Week last March. Ms. Sheila Grace Nacorda of Timex Phils, Inc gave the presentation.
- Activity-Based Costing – This was presented by Andre Lim ( Pacific Traders and Mfg. Corp .) as part of the academic activity during the IE Week at the University of San Jose - Recoletos .
PIIE Cebu also worked with USJ-R in organizing a Masteral class for Industrial Engineering among MEPZ employees. Classes have already started this Semester at the Timex Facility in Mactan.
On August 20, the Chapter is sponsoring a select group of participants from different Cebu-based industries (Operations Managers and Industrial Engineers) to an interactive sampling/lecture of a full-scale manufacturing factory planner. Again, this is sponsored by Timex Phils., Inc . and shall be held at their facility. Presentors are Ellizer Cabahug and Evangeline Santillan of Timex. This activity aims to expose the participants to MRP/mrpii -based factory planning systems and to benchmark logic and capabilities as well as limitations from other automated and manual systems.
In November, Timex has committed to sponsor another invitational benchmarking activity showcasing their fully automated Warehouse Management System .
