The PIIE was launched during the 1st General Membership Meeting, which was held on April 23, 1998 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Makati. The affair also marked the election of the first Officers of the Organization. Elected as President was Mr. Federico (Dickie) Gonzales, the President of San Miguel Properties Philippines, Inc. (SMPPI) Speakers during the affair were Dennis T. Beng Hui, representing the Philippine Industrial Engineering Schools Association, Alfonso A. Aliga, Jr., Principal, SGV Consulting, who read a paper on "Industry Expectations" and Rene T. Domingo, Professor, Asian Institute of Management and keynote speaker who talked on "Industrial Engineering Towards the Next Millenium". Also present were Rodel Emmanuel C. Adiviso, CEO & President, Technocity Development & Management Corp. and Chairman of the PIIE Organizing Committee, Mel Acebedo-Filmer, Associate Professor, De La Salle University who served as the emcee for the affair.
