“ DISCOVER WHY INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERS ARE NEEDED IN THE EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT OF THE SUPPLY CHAIN.”
The 25th GMM was held last June 24, 2005 in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Makati City and featured a talk by Mr. DANIEL BELVIS, C.P.M., a PIIE member and the Senior Logistics Manager of Sanofi-Aventis , the 3rd largest pharmaceutical company in the world. His presentation was aptly titled “DEEP IMPACT: THE EMERGING ROLE OF THE IE IN THE SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT” and he discussed the direct relation of the supply chain on corporate profitability, efficiency and service levels. An area of increasing concern and focus in most companies, SCM was tackled to highlight specifically the role of industrial engineers in introducing improvements in the supply chain. The presentation focused on IE methodologies and culminated in the discussion of the “Industrial Engineering's Toolbox” – which involves the basic and common tools applied in supply chain management. An industrial engineering graduate of St. Louis University, Mr. Belvis currently manages 3rd party toll manufacturers and is responsible for Demand/Supply Planning, Importations and promotional materials distribution for his company. He is currently the 2nd Vice President and Head of Professional Development of the Philippine Institute for Supply Chain Management (PISM) .
The occasion was also marked by the signing of the MOC between PIIE and PISM, where the current and incoming PISM Presidents, Ms. Mina Bato and Ms. Mimi Agas, were present. Ms. Bato, who is the Vice President of Sara Lee Philippines and an Industrial Engineer, gave a brief presentation on the history and mission/vision of PISM , the recognized Philippine organization that promotes and advocates the practice of supply chain management.
The election for the 2005-2007 PIIE Board of Trustees was also held during the meeting.
